Tess of the d’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy is part of the series called Critical Editions under co-publishing arrangement with the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad.

These editions of the classics are introduced to readers and students with a detailed analysis of the historical place of the genre involved, the place of the respective novelist in the canon, the important concerns and ideas of the novelist along with significant and pertinent issues for discussion and thought and a sociological perspective to the themes presented in the work. Tess of the d’Urbervilles has, in addition, a set of annotations covering the more historical and contextual references in the work. The edition ends with two critical essays, a list of topics for classroom discussion and also a list of further reading.
