Analog Communications Systems: Principles and Practices caters to the syllabus of undergraduate engineering programmes in ECE, EEE and IT streams of Indian universities. It can also serve as a primary textbook for BSc Electronics/Computer Science/IT. The methodology adopted in this book is to

  1. illustrate concepts in modulation and signal processing using MATLAB®,
  2. provide a simple and lucid approach to analysis without compromising mathematical rigour and
  3. include a fair number of worked-out examples and chapter-end-exercises.

The book introduces recent and most promising developments in the domain of analog communications. The thrust on using MATLAB® as simulation tool along with an introduction to MATLAB®/Simulink® in the first chapter makes the book suitable for use in programming and simulation lab as well.

K C Raveendranathan obtained his BSc (Engg.) in electronics and communications engineering with distinction from the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, in 1984. He worked in Bharat Electronics, Bangalore, from 1985 to 1988, where he was involved in the design and development of MW transmitters fro Prasar Bharathi. His book 1/0 Solutions to Everyday Problems in Science and Engineering, a philosophical work published in the late '80s, whci he considers his magnum opus, was well accepted by academis. He joined the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, in 1988, where he is now a professor. He obtained his masters in engineering (ME) from the Indian Institute of Science, bangalore, in 1993, specialising in optical/computer communications. He has presented/published over 12 papers in national and international conferences and journals, and guided over a dozen UG projects and 7 MTech theses. His research interests include digital signal processing, wireless communication, fuzzy logic, and next-generation computing and simulation techniques. He is a life member of the ISTE and a member of the IETE and the IEEE.
