The launch of Tariq Rahman's From
Hindi to Urdu: A Social and Political History
took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, on 25 February 2011. Professor Harish C. Narang (on the right), congratulates Professor Rahman on his book. A first of its kind, this book traces the political history and genealogy of Urdu. It also looks at the domains in which the language is used by both Hindus and Muslims of northern India.

Francis Robinson CBE, Sultan of Oman Fellow, Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, and Professor at the University of London says that this book is 'the first major study of the manifold engagement of the linguistic forms known as 'Urdu' with South Asian society.'
