Comic revolutionary, a scourge of the British administration, a good Samaritan, a braggart and a buffoon, Kanamamu is surely one of the most lovable characters of Oriya fiction. Mahapatra's depiction of village life with all its unique social and religious customs, superstitions, friendships and feuds is a justly celebrated feature of this work.
