Surveillance of the fetus is practised by obstetricians and midwives on a daily basis to prevent stillbirth and neonatal death. Yet, there is no specific book to cover this area of practice. Antenatal and Intrapartum Fetal Surveillance fills this gap – it covers the knowledge.

A comprehensive reference text, the book discusses the use of biochemical and ultrasound markers for screening of genetic, chromosomal and anatomical malformations. It also covers fetal movements, heart rate monitoring, Doppler blood flows, fetal blood sampling, fetal oxygen saturation and fetal ECG waveform analysis to diagnose hypoxia. Recent developments as well as advanced technologies for the future are also dealt with.

Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran is Professor and Head, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, St George's Hospital and Medical School, London, United Kingdom. He is President, FIGO (International Federation of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists).

Rohana Haththotuwa is Chairman and Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist at Ninewell's CARE Mother and Baby Hospital, Colombo, Sri Lanka. He is Deputy Secretary General, AOFOG (Asia Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology).

Jaydeep Tank is Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist at Ashwini Maternity and Surgical Hospital, Center for Endoscopy and ART, Mumbai, India. He is Treasurer, FOGSI (Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India).

Parikshit Tank is Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Ashwini Maternity and Surgical Hospital, Center for Endoscopy and ART and Honorary Clinical Associate, Nowrosjee Wadia Maternity Hospital, Mumbai, India. He is Joint Secretary, FOGSI.
