Ananthanarayan and Paniker’s Textbook of Microbiology has, for several decades, been the gold standard text for medical students. The Nurse needs to have a compact, workable and translatable knowledge of Microbiology. This revised Nursing edition of this prestigious book addresses the needs of the nurse practitioner in the Indian scenario in the ever changing and evolving face of Microbiology.
New to the second edition
It presents in greater detail the knowledge required by the nurse about a specific group of pathogens which generate the majority of a microbiologist’s work. Systematic Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology and Mycology have been suitably updated for an overall understanding.
The section on Clinical and Hospital Microbiology has been given thorough emphasis, with enhanced explanation and implementation of Barrier Nursing Care in view of the rise of MRSA and other hospital acquired infections. Collection and Transport of Specimens according to strict guidelines deals with the practical knowledge and precautions to be exercised with the help of a comprehensive tabular column.
To encourage better understanding of the spread and mechanisms of infections, the chapter on Principles of Infection Control and Precautions in Patient Care outlines these for effective control, with a special Care Bundle for prevention of infection in the ICU.
The new chapter on Infective Syndromes provides a syndrome based approach to the diagnosis of infections.
